Today plant production is subject to constant evolution making it necessary to activate research processes to increase the food safety, productivity and competitiveness of the sector.
NEIKER is a pioneer of these processes to obtain local varieties adapted to our environmental conditions, in order to optimise production systems and agricultural practices, and to improve the qualities of the end product.
All the expertise of traditional genetics research, accumulated for years, together with
our ongoing commitment to innovation, means that we can transfer this knowledge to the agricultural sector and generate value in the production processes. We therefore help to minimise the impact of climate change on crops and to meet the growing need for agro-ecological products, economically profitable and competitive.
Agricultural sustainability and competitiveness
Our lines of plant research.
Production system and best practices
Production system and best practices
We promote sustainable, socially viable, profitable and productive agricultural practices, healthy for the human being and respectful towards the environment.
Plant health
Plant health
We provide epidemiological surveillance and develop new strategies to detect and control plant pests and diseases.
Extensive farming
Extensive farming
We address projects on the genetic improvement and selection of plants, their health and handling, with particular attention to guidelines on FERTILISATION and WATERING for cereal, potatoes, sugar beet, oleaginous crops (rapeseed) and leguminous plants (edible pulses).
We apply the most innovative BIOTECHNOLOGY to obtaining data of interest in these areas of knowledge.
Horticulture
Horticulture
We address projects on the genetic improvement and selection of plants, their health and handling, paying particular attention to hydroponics, aeroponics and ground-based production systems with agro-ecological management. The quality harvest of peppers, guindilla peppers, tomatoes and other alternative horticultural crops are our speciality.
To develop sustainable, profitable and efficient vegetable production a complementary strategy must be developed in relation to crop health. We work continuously to diagnose and detect plant pests and disease, also researching the epidemiological progress of plant and forestry infections in order to proceed with effective work to control them. We therefore have lines of research in:
Diagnosis and control
Diagnosis and control
This applies to crops introduced to the Basque Country, whether planted in greenhouses or extensively in the open air and forestry plantations, and especially to greenhouse peppers and tomatoes, cereals, potatoes, beetroot, vines and apples. We have an epidemiological diagnosis and surveillance service responding to the consultations of the sector, as well as a tool providing alerts and warnings to assist the making of technical decisions in the event of pests and diseases.
Control of plant pests and diseases
Control of plant pests and diseases
We work with different sectors to share and transfer knowledge to farmers, technical advisors and institutions regarding the development of agricultural policies on strategies to control plant pests and diseases.
PUBLICATIONS
We produce scientific work recognised nationally and internationally in our areas of research.
THESIS
We lead or participate in studies that help to improve, corroborate or propose measures for process optimisation and improvement.
SPECIALISED GROUPS
We create networks with an eminently applied vocation and focussed on transfer of the knowledge generated.
The NEIKER Plant Research team develops R&D&I projects focussed on optimising plant production systems and guaranteeing healthy crops.
