NEIKER will be present at Food 4 Future with its latest technological solutions for the agri-food sector

20 April 2023
  • The technology centre will once again take part in Food 4 Future, an event that will transform the BEC! in Barakaldo (Bizkaia, Basque Country) into a meeting point for foodtech industry agents from more than twenty countries
  •  NEIKER researchers, Ana Díez and Nerea Mandaluniz, will give two talks in which they will present some sustainable agriculture alternatives to reduce environmental impact
  •  Within the Basque Government stand, NEIKER will show some of the solutions it has developed for the first sector

The Basque Country will once again host F4F – Expo Foodtech, a benchmark event in innovation aimed at the food and beverage industry.  The fair, which will take place from 16 to 18 May at the Bilbao Exhibition Center (BEC!) in Barakaldo (Bizkaia, Basque Country), will bring together more than 7,000 food sector professionals from all over the world interested in the latest trends in food and technology.

NEIKER, a technology centre specialising in the creation of innovative solutions for the agri-food sector, will have a prominent presence at the fair. Within the Basque Government’s exhibition space (stand 516), visitors will be able to see first-hand some of the technological solutions that the centre has developed for the agricultural sector: mobile applications that help in decision-making, biotechnology to improve crops, etc.

For some time now, the centre has become a benchmark in research in the field of agritech, a term that refers to the use of technology and technological innovation to improve the efficiency and performance of agricultural, livestock and forestry processes. In short, to help the sector in its transformation and progress towards more productive, sustainable systems that are resistant to the effects of climate change, growing more food in less space and with fewer raw materials.

Technology for more sustainable agriculture

In addition to its exhibition space, in this edition of F4F – Expo Foodtech the technology centre will also have an important participation in the congress with the intervention of two researchers from the centre in two sessions focused on the field of sustainable agriculture.

Firstly, on Tuesday 16 May, Ana Díez, a researcher in the centre’s Plant Production and Protection department, will be giving a talk on “Sustainable use of pesticides”. During the talk, which will take place from 12:00 to 13:00 in Auditorium 1 of the BEC!, the NEIKER researcher will present some alternatives to chemical pesticides in order to reduce the use of pesticides, maintaining food production and at the same time reducing their impact on the environment.

The following day, Wednesday 17 May, Nerea Mandaluniz, researcher at NEIKER’s Animal Health department, will talk about the role of regenerative agriculture in reducing C02 emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change. The session will take place from 17:30 to 18:15 in Auditorium 2.

As this is an international fair, all lectures will be held in English. More information and registration at www.expofoodtech.com.
