Organic farming continues to add hectares in the Basque Country. According to data from the Basque Council for Organic Agriculture and Food (Ekolurra), the area dedicated to organic farming is gradually increasing every year. In particular, in 2024, 1,905 new hectares were added, a growth of almost 18% compared to the previous year, and a total of 12,688 hectares were registered.

In this context, research into new varieties that are well adapted to organic farming is essential for organic farming to continue to expand and gain hectares. It is no coincidence that the European Union’s “From Farm to Fork” strategy proposes that by 2030, 25% of the European agricultural surface area should be cultivated organically.

That is why the NEIKER technology centre will host its traditional visit to the plots of land at its headquarters in Arkaute (Álava) to demonstrate the current and future potential of organic farming in the Basque Country.

The field day will be divided into two parts. First we will meet at NEIKER’s headquarters in Arkaute to give the first explanations and then we will visit the experimentalfields of soy and potato.

  • FOR: professionals from the agricultural sector, public administrations, companies and management centres.
