Paloma Moncaleán appointed deputy coordinator of IUFRO Working Party 2.09.02

En el marco del congreso anual que se está celebrando en Gante (Bélgica), la Dra. Eva Ugarte, directora de Innovación y Tecnología de NEIKER, ha sido reconocida con el Distinguished Service Award por la European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP).

he International Union of Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO) has appointed NEIKER researcher, Paloma Moncaleán, as the co-coordinator of the IUFRO 2.09.02 work unit group on somatic embryogenesis and other vegetative propagation techniques.

The main objective of this unit is to promote the development and application of somatic embryogenesis (SE) technology in both conifers and hardwood tree species. The research areas of this unit include: the development and refinement of the SE system for commercially and ecologically important tree species; The application of SE in forest production and its application in multivariate forestry; The use of SE in the conservation of genetic resources, biotechnology, genomics, molecular biology and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses.

This unit deals with the dissemination of the latest biotechnological developments that can be used in breeding programs for sustainable forest plant production.

Paloma Moncaleán is a PhD in Plant Physiology from the University of Oviedo and after her experience at the CNB (CSIC) during her postdoctoral phase, she has been working in the Vegetal production department of NEIKER since 2002.
