General objective:

To favour the protection and conservation of mountain soils, as well as their resilience to climate change, by developing knowledge, defining good practices, analysing the main vulnerabilities and raising awareness among the population and mountain users to conserve this fragile resource.

Specific objectives:

  • To create a catalogue and mapping of soils throughout the Pyrenees, at a scale of 1:400,000, continuous and homogeneous, by means of a standardised and reproducible methodology, transferable to other territories.
  • Establish a unified methodology that makes it possible to inventory, qualify and quantify the processes and levels of degradation of mountain soils in pilot roads/areas and to communicate good practices for their conservation and rehabilitation.
  • Raise awareness of the natural value of the resource ‘soil’, its risks of degradation, and the need for its conservation.
  • Encourage cooperation between entities in the Pyrenees that have their main interest in the conservation and preservation of soils and their uses, as a key element to promote better adaptation to climate change.

The SOLPYR project (EFA045/01) has been co-financed 65% by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme (POCTEFA 2021-2027). The objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.
