Reuse of agro-food effluents for the production of microalgae and its application to the Circular Agriculture of the territory.
- Project start: 01/01/2024
- End of project: 31/12/2026
- Principal Investigator: Miriam Pinto
- Funder: Interreg POCTEFA 2021-2027 programme
- Reference: EFA19/1
- Budget: the total budget is 1.047.967,26€ and the ERDF budget is 681.178,72€.
- Partners: NEIKER, UPC, APESA and CATAR
General objective:
To develop biostimulants, biopesticides and organic fertilisers from microalgae produced in agri-food effluents, applying a circular strategy that improves efficiency in the use of resources, sustainability and diversification of the value chain of the agri-food sector.
Specific objectives:
- To develop on a demonstration scale microalgae crops as a solution to recover nutrients from three types of agri-food effluents.
- To use low environmental impact technologies to transform algal biomass into three types of products for agricultural use.
- Evaluate the above products in organic agriculture and hydroponics, against agricultural diseases of economic impact and considering environmental factors related to climate change.
- To promote the knowledge and adoption of microalgae production as an activity for the bioeconomy and a resource within the value chain of the agri-food sector.
Results
The results of REAL-MAC will contribute to improve the efficiency in the use of resources, sustainability, mitigation of climate change effects and diversification of the agri-food value chain in the POCTEFA territory.
The REAL-MAC project has been co-funded 65% by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme (POCTEFA 2021-2027). The objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.
