Renewable, biodegradable and biocompatible polycarbonates from CO2 for strategic sectors in the Basque Country

To achieve the objective, the structure-properties correlation of polymers will be carried out by means of AI, as well as the definition of the requirements of the polymers for the different applications on the basis of which the candidate compositions and materials for the different uses will be selected. Once defined, the synthesis of the key monomers and their polymerisation, including epoxides and cyclic carbonates from renewable sources, will be carried out using technologies such as cyclic carbonates and their ring-opening polymerisation of cyclic carbonates or the use of additive techniques for thermoplastic processing.
Once the prototypes have been obtained, they will be validated in different applications such as sensors, biocompatible plastics for health or biodegradable materials for agriculture.
