Climate change is causing significant detrimental effects on European forests and, among them, forest fires are one of the greatest threats.
In this scenario, it is essential to increase the resilience of Atlantic and sub-Atlantic forests to the effects of climate change, and the implementation of silvopastoral measures may be one of the alternatives.LIFE SILFORE is a “demonstrator” project with the following challenges:
- Reduce combustible biomass through grazing.
- Increasing biological diversity favoured by the generation of multiple gradients of light, humidity, fertility, etc. as well as diverse ecological niches for plants and animals with different requirements. Such biodiversity is a key element in ensuring the resilience of tree patches to impacts such as those generated by climate change.
- Conserve the provision of ecosystem services at a landscape and regional scale.
