Methods for the detection of mycobacteria responsible for zoonoses in livestock products
- Financing: Department of Education, Universities and Research-Basque Government PI2011-50
- Head researcher: Iker A. Sevilla
- Implementation: 2011-2013
The general objective of the project is to create a strategy based on molecular biology for the early detection and identification of mycobacteria of medical and veterinary interest causing zoonosis from samples related to the livestock-raising industry or hunting for human consumption.
The specific objectives and tasks are:
1. To design multiple molecular methods that are capable of detecting M. tuberculosis and M. avium complexes and M. tuberculosis, M. bovis, M. caprae, M. avium subsp. avium, M. avium subsp. hominissuis, M. avium subsp. paratuberculosis y M. intracellulare species and subspecies in livestock products for human consumption.
2. To identify a DNA extraction method and type of sample that provides greater sensitivity.
3. To validate the strategy and methods designed by studying their specificity and sensitivity.
