Workshops to participate in the co-creation of the Pyrenean Soil Action Plan
5 September 2025- The SOLPYR project, an initiative co-funded by the European Union, has organized a series of participatory online workshops to develop the Pyrenean Soil Action Plan
- After a successful technical workshop held last July, the SOLPYR project marks a new milestone with a series of participatory workshops
- The aim is to involve society to develop an action plan to ensure the resilience of mountain soil, environmental and economic assets of the region
Mountain soil is among the most fragile and sensitive ecosystems to the effects of climate change. In the Pyrenees, rising temperatures, the reduction of snow cover and the pressure caused by certain recreational uses are accelerating processes such as erosion, compaction and carbon loss. These impacts deteriorate soil health and compromise essential functions such as water management and biodiversity maintenance.
To address this problem, NEIKER participates in the European SOLPYR project, which aims to improve knowledge about mountain soils, identify their main vulnerabilities and promote their conservation through technical tools, educational materials and a common strategy among the Pyrenees regions.
Within the framework of this initiative, the SOLPYR project has invited a wide range of stakeholders to participate in the co-creation of a Soils Action Plan, a strategic tool for their conservation.
These workshops, designed to be spaces for debate, seek to generate proposals and reflections on the importance of soil health. NEIKER, as a partner of the project, contributes with its technical and scientific knowledge to ensure that the proposed actions are based on the best available evidence.
Participation and calendar
The call is addressed to all people and entities that have an influence on the use and care of soil. This includes representatives of public administrations, the scientific community, the private sector (agriculture, livestock, tourism, etc.) and various associations.
The seven workshops will be held online at the following dates and times:
- Navarre: 19/09 (10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)
- Nouvelle Aquitaine: 23/09 (2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

About SOLPYR
Coordinated by the ICGC (Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya), in addition to NEIKER, partners representing the different regions of the Pyrenees also participate: DRYMA (Department of Rural Development and Environment of the Government of Navarre), FMC (Fundació privada Marcel Chevalier), FORESPIR (GEIE FORESPIR), GET-UT3 (Géosciences Environnement Toulouse-Université Toulouse III Paul Sabatier), IPE-CSIC (Pyrenean Institute of Ecology of the Spanish National Research Council), OPCC-CTP (Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory of the Working Community of the Pyrenees Consortium) and UPNA (Public University of Navarra).
The SOLPYR project has a total budget of 1,795,513 euros, 65% of which has been co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg POCTEFA 2021-2027 Programme. The aim of this programme is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.
The implementation of SOLPYR will ensure the transfer of knowledge and the alignment of activities with the EU Strategy for Soil Protection 2030.
