General Objective
To develop advances in the field of nutrition and carbon footprint and their subsequent dissemination; through the implementation of the use of anti-methanogenic components in dairy cattle feed and subsequent evaluation of their impact on both methane emissions and carbon footprint.
Specific Objectives
-
- Implement the use of antimethanogenic components in the feed of dairy cattle on two farms with different forage systems representative of the Basque Country.
- Demonstrate the effect of incorporating one or two components in lactating cows fed two different diets on enteric methane emissions, cow productivity, associated costs, and carbon footprint.
- Conduct a detailed analysis of milk production data, nutrient composition, and enteric emissions, ensuring the reliability of the results to evaluate the effectiveness of the additives.
- Estimate the additional gas emissions (NH₃ and NO₂) resulting from the use of different diets and transfer the protocol to Kaiku for future implementation.
- Reach a consensus on the methodology to be followed to calculate the carbon footprint associated with the nutritional strategies.
