  • The agreement will have an initial duration of four years.
  • They will work together to advance environmental commitments through the development of instruments and the application of existing scientific knowledge.

NEIKER, the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development, and Ihobe, the Public Society for Environmental Management of the Basque Government, have renewed their collaboration agreement with the aim of strengthening environmental sustainability through the application of knowledge. The agreement has been signed by Olatz Unamunzaga Galarza, general manager of NEIKER, and Alexander Boto Bastegieta, general manager of Ihobe, who have highlighted the importance of joining efforts to face current and future environmental challenges. The agreement will have an initial duration of four years, with annual detailed planning. NEIKER and Ihobe have a history of working together, and this agreement will improve the information available on CO2 absorption, necessary for climate neutrality, the calculation of emissions from the agricultural sector, and changes in land use.

The general manager of NEIKER, Olatz Unamunzaga Galarza, pointed out that “this collaboration reinforces our commitment to useful and applied public research, aimed at responding to major environmental challenges”. In her opinion, “joining capacities with Ihobe allows us to advance in the development of knowledge and tools that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient Euskadi, aligned with the objectives of climate neutrality”.

The general director of Ihobe, Alexander Boto Bastegieta, stressed that the agreement with NEIKER “is a clear example of how collaboration between administrations can become a key driver to accelerate the ecological transition in the Basque Country”. According to Boto, combining capacities between public entities with a transformative vocation allows us to advance in the integration of environmental criteria in strategic sectors such as agriculture and livestock, generating useful knowledge, innovative solutions and applicable tools that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient Euskadi”.
