AGENDA 15 DECEMBER: LARRESNE project dissemination day: smart grazing and livestock digitisation
3 December 2025The LARRESNE project, in which the NEIKER technology centre is participating, has been created to respond to the new demands of the agri-food market focused on sustainability, animal welfare and traceability. Promoted within the framework of the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027, this Operational Group has aimed to digitise the livestock sector in order to improve herd management and strengthen the traceability of products from grazing.
In order to publicise the final results and the potential of the solutions developed, a dissemination day will be held. The RUMI system, a smart collar that monitors the location and activity of animals (grazing, ruminating, resting) in real time, will be presented in detail. This continuous monitoring tool helps farmers to organise their tasks, allows them to anticipate different eventualities and contributes to improving animal welfare.
It also facilitates the efficient organisation of farmers’ daily tasks and opens up the possibility of certifying pasture milk, providing verifiable evidence to consumers.
This tool, which has already been optimised by NEIKER for cattle, has been used within the LARRESNE project on a dairy farm and has been tested on Latxo sheep, adapting the technology to the specific characteristics of each sector. LARRESNE participants will therefore present the progress made with cattle and Latxo sheep, and will detail how the device supports decision-making through individual, continuous and reliable data.
- FOR: Basque Country livestock/dairy sector, trade unions, dairy companies, management centres, institutions.
