LIFE SILFORE in the summer course "Montesinho Diversity" (SusTEC)

Within the framework of the summer course on the diversity of the Montesinho Natural Park, Marina Castro (CIMO-SusTEC) presented the LIFE SILFORE project, giving a talk on the importance of extensive grazing in the conservation of native forests of the PNM in Bragança.

Based on the first floristic inventories carried out within the framework of SILFORE, the researcher Maria Villa presented the flora of the Quercus forests of the PNM, in particular the rebollo (Quercus pyrenaica) and the holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia) - forests protected by the Directive Habitats that constitute the two demonstration areas of the Portuguese participation.

In addition to the two researchers and the group of 12 students, the visit of the demonstrators was attended by the rancher Humberto Figueiredo who uses the oak forest area.

The closing session of the course, which was attended by the farmer, the LIFE researchers Marina Castro and María Villa, and the Deputy Director of the Centro de Investigação de Montanha, Dr. Lilian Barros, took place in the Casa do Povo of the Parish de Parâmio, where DEMO 11 of the SILFORE project is being installed.
