TRAYECTORIA

Sorkunde Mendarte has a doctorate in biological sciences from the Univeristy of Basque Country. She has worked on projects related to pastoral agroecosystems: mountain pastures, silvopastoral systems and mowing meadows in relation to their ecology and sustainable management. In a global prespective, these projects has aimed at evaluating the quality and health of agroecosystems using the analysis of sustainability indicators based on floristic inventories, biodiversity indices, analysis of soil, pasture and trees and with their agronomic and productive evaluation. For this, she uses transversal methodologies such as Geographic Information Systems, and univariate and multivariate statistical tools for data analysis. In addition, from the acquisition of a portable NIRS (near infrared spectroscopy) equipment, she has worked with chemometric tools in obtaining calibration and prediction models of properties of interest of soil and plant. Very recently, she has started to use remote sensing tools from satellite images applied to pastoral agroecosystems.
