TRAYECTORIA

Dr. Enrique Ritter is a Senior Research Scientist of NEIKER. He studied Agriculture at the University of Bonn (Germany), from which he received his degree in 1978. In 1979 he joined the Institute of Agricultural Botany at the University of Bonn, from which in 1984, he received PhD degree in Agricultural Sciences. In 1986 he joined the Max-Planck Institute for Pant Breeding in Cologne as a visiting scientist in the Department of Francesco Salamini, developing model and programs for linkage mapping and QTL analysis, particularly useful for allogamous species. In 1991 he went to Spain to NEIKER –The Basque Institute for Research and Development in Agriculture to become Senior Research Scientist. Since 2003, he is Head of Department of Biotechnology at NEIKER. Dr. Enrique has over 30 years experience particularly in crops breeding, in molecular biology and genetics and large experience in the participation and in managing of R&D projects. He is working in different fields of theoretical and practical molecular biology including DNA marker technology, linkage mapping and QTL analysis, differential expression techniques, and genetic engineering. He has worked in different forest and crop species including Pine species, sugar beets, grapes, guava, coconut and oil palm. During his long R&D trajectory (1992-2009), he was coordinator of 15 national R&D projects and principal investigator in 13 additional national projects. He has participated as principal investigator in 18 international projects or research contracts, coordinating three of them [1FAIR (FP4, EU), 1 QLRT (FP5 EU) 1 PIC (CYTED ES)]. During this time he has published 95 articles in scientific journals (incl. PNAS, Genetics, Genetical Research, TAG, Annals of Applied Biology, TGG, CropScience, Appl Environ Microbiol, Nuc Acid Res, Plant Journal), he has written 9 book chapters and has 31 dissemination articles. He has organised five large international congresses (BIOFOR´99, BIOFOR´02, Vitoria, Spain; EAPR2005, Bilbao, Spain; PATATA2000, PATATA2008, Vittoria, Spain) and has teached in various courses about different biotechnology topics in four continents. He was President of the European Association for Potato Research (EAPR) from 2002 to 2005. Dr. Enrique Ritter is a Senior Research Scientist of NEIKER.
