TRAYECTORIA

Medelin Ocejo earned her Degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2011 at University of León, Spain and completed her master’s degree in Research in Veterinary Science and Food Technology in 2012 at the same university. That same year, she joined the Department of Animal Health of NEIKER, firstly with a two-year fellowship followed by a a full doctoral fellowship from the Basque Government. She completed her PhD in Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology in 2019 in International Doctorate modality with cum laude distinction from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Simultaneously, she also completed a postgraduate Diploma in Statistics and Design in Health Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 2015 and obtained a Master´s degree in Research methodology in Health Sciences at the same university in 2020. | Her research activities focus on microbiology and molecular microbiology of food-borne pathogens in livestock and the associated antimicrobial resistance. She has developed skills in different laboratory techniques and specifically acquired solid competences in bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput sequencing data applied to the characterisation of the gut microbiome of livestock using metagenomic approaches, and the genomic characterization of bacteria by whole genome sequencing.
