GERMPLASM COLLECTIONS
Neiker-BRTA maintains several germplasm collections, of which the following crops should be highlighted: potato ( Solanum tuberosum L.), corn ( Zea mays L.), tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum L.), kidney bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L), pepper ( Capsicum annum L.) and cereals such as wheat, oats and barley. In addition to a collection of apple tree varieties in situ.
POTATO COLLECTIONS
Among the collections, it is worth noting that of potato varieties, as it is the only bank of reference at the state level, as well as the entries of maize, tomato and beans, which come mainly from the Basque Country and neighboring areas.
GENETIC IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS
All of them have great genetic value that it is necessary to preserve, not only as a reservoir of genes of interest, but also because they are potentially usable in genetic improvement programs.
The conservation of these materials, supposes a constant characterization and evaluation of the same, whose task has been carried out by Neiker for several years.
