Prevalence and characterisation of bacterial pathogens at the bottom of the food chain – current situation and comparison with previous data

  • Financing: Department of Economic Development and Competitiveness. Basque Government
  • Head researcher: Ana Hurtado
  • Implementation: 2013-2015

The overall objective of the project is to estimate the current prevalence of infection by bacterial pathogens on livestock farms in the Basque Country

The specific objectives and tasks are:

1. Planning the sampling
2. Fine tuning the techniques
3. Establishing the prevalence of food-borne bacteria (Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp., e. coli verotoxigénico – VTEC and Listeria monocytogenes), which cause food infections on livestock farms in the Basque Country
4. Comparison of the data with those obtained in 2003-2005
